In order to join a scout troop, a boy must have done one of the following:
Reached 11, but not 18, years of age
Completed the 5th Grade or
Earned the Cub Scout
Arrow of Light Award
But even before that is completed, the boy and the parents should visit at least two local troops
before deciding which to join. Different troops emphasize different things, and run their programs very
differently from each other. Just because you may not like one troop, does not mean you will not like
another. Troop 132 emphasizes youth leadership and year-round camping. Links to other local troops are below. You
also contact the Ore-Ida Council service center
for more information on troops in your area.
Deciding which troop to join is the hardest part. Once you make that decision, the scoutmaster and troop guide
will take care of you. Most troops require annual dues to pay for activities and patches, and this is generally
a small amount. You will also have to fill out some paperwork, including a scouting application and a medical form.
Once you're in, Boy Scouting is a long and rewarding experience, and you will not regret your decision.
